Yoga, Mindfulness & Community Support
“Yoga has many benefits beyond improving just physical strength. It helps improve mental wellbeing and provides the opportunity to build supportive communities”
Through the practice of yoga and mindfulness seminars, Friendsline is focused on improving the mental, physical and social wellbeing of women and girls in developing countries.
Yoga not only helps build physical strength and flexibility but it also helps improve mental wellbeing. Yoga poses stimulate the release of hormones which promote overall physical and emotional health and happiness. Through learning skills and strategies to remain calm and focused, yoga also provides the space for deep concentration and meditation to quiet the mind. There is also evidential support that yoga has many benefits for reducing levels of stress, anxiety and depression by slowing down the heart rate, lowering blood pressure and regulating respiration.
Yoga also has many social benefits. Through the yoga seminars, new communities are created providing the opportunity to make new friendships and social networks. A relaxed, happy and content mind is better equipped to deal relationships of every kind.
Mindfulness activities, such a meditation, breathing and colouring, are seen to reduce levels of stress and anxiety. Mindfulness can boost creativity and help with problem solving. Friendsline aims to create safe space in which these activities can be experienced and enjoyed by women and girls from disadvantaged backgrounds.
We believe that by facilitating yoga and mindfulness activities we can have a positive impact on the mental health of the women who participate. Friendsline creates a safe environment for women to build strong community support networks to improve their mental, physical and social wellbeing.
